Unanticipated changes in housing you didn’t expect

Unanticipated changes in housing you didnt expect

When Covid 19 hit, no one was prepared. It came with no indication, and then instantly, it decimated the whole planet. When they say change is constant, this is not the kind of change anyone expects and appreciates. This is a very unwelcome change. But perhaps, being constant makes it more unanticipated. This kind of change is beyond anyone’s control.

The pandemic took the world in a whirlwind of Herculean and historical proportions.  Everyone was affected. Suddenly, every nation became attuned. Businesses became immobilized, the medical field endured and collapsed, the entertainment scene closed curtains,  even the real estate industry was not spared.

Months following the spread of COVID 19, there have been projections on how the pandemic would impact real estate. For some, unfavorable implications were emanated, but for the many enthusiasts, they saw it as an opportunity.

Despite the stay-at-home order, it has been observed how people became more geared towards investing. They saw potential amidst the pandemic. There may be instances when the sellers’ market dominated the buyers, but both parties were slowly thriving.

  • Housing in the suburbs became investors’ apple of the eye. Since more people have decided to go a healthier route, they are now moving to the countryside to sustain their new way of living. The work-from-home setup allowed them to undergo such a transition because they can work remotely, after all.

  • Tourism took a blow when travel restrictions were enforced. Airbnb, hotels, and other accommodations were put in a deteriorating spotlight. The implementation of social distancing protocols disrupted the tranquil flow of these real estate establishments.

  • Apartment complexes transformed their units to make the work from home setup conducive to their tenants. Resident managers utilize unused spaces to become shared offices for those under the work-from-home structure but opt to have the same office-like atmosphere and ambiance.

  • Balconies and terraces were built or remodeled to allow people to still experience the outdoors without jeopardizing their health.

  • The usual on-campus college residence halls were compelled to carry out a single-occupant-per-room arrangement.  Physical distancing is also enforced in communal areas like the study lounge and cafeteria. Off-campus housing has also ratified this design to lessen the transmission of viruses among its residents.

  • Open houses were reduced to virtual tours and online viewing. Meetings were conducted via virtual platforms.

These are just some of the many unanticipated changes that people are currently facing because of COVID 19.

Though measures have been observed to flatten the curve, the crisis is still there. Unlike hotel guests, this “visitor” has no definite itinerary. It came with no reservations and will check out unannounced. But then again, even if you feel like complaining, which is to blame, right?

In the worst times, the best approach is to follow the protocols and health practices. Perhaps, it would also be best to maintain a high level of tolerance for unforeseen circumstances. It pays to be prepared and keep an optimistic stance in life. Covid 19 may be a phenomenon, but it is and will never be larger than life.

As a short-term rental business owner, use this opportunity to unearth innovations for your business. If there’s a need for you to do some renovations, this may be the time you’ve been trying to squeeze in your schedule. If you’re planning to revamp your style and design, there’s no stopping you this time. Reassess what your short-term rental lacks and start whatever needs to be done. The business may be a little slow, but in time it’ll be back to how it was or perhaps the new normal. Either way, keep a good eye and always maintain a degree of level-headedness.
